Introduction

Medieval Wars 2 is a turn based strategy game and a big improvement from the first
Medieval Wars.

We introduced new different type of units: infantry (spearmen, swordsmen, pikemen), mounted
(light cavalry, medium and heavy) and ranged (bowmen, long-bowmen, crossbowmen).

The battle system has changed heavily and has been influenced by Advanced Wars and the Battalion Series.

Hero Management

You are a Captain, a leader of a mercenary company of men, fighting for Nobles and Lords paying for your services.

hero_screen

Here you can manage your Hero, clicking the arrows to select between different weapons, shields, armours and helms. Clicking on the icon near the name you can regenerate it. When you have finished you can click the Save button to exit from the screen and save the changes you made.

Game Modes

You can play in campaign mode unlocking new levels and new campaigns (thanks to our tools we will be able to add new campaigns, giving more longevity to the game). We think to include the best user maps created to the new campaigns.

You can play in skirmish mode in a randomly generated map for a quick and fast game experience.

You can play and rate user created maps.

Gameplay

You will compete against computer controlled opponents from 1 to 5 and your main goal is to crush the enemy armies killing all their troops and conquering all their towers and castle.

Usually a map contains castles where you can create units and generate income, wheat fields, orchards and mines that increase your gold incomes to create new units.

Every terrain gives you a defense bonus except from swamps (defense malus), mines, wheat fields and orchards.

Units

To create a unit you must click on a tower or a castle when it is empty and not occupied by any unit.

Spearmen
spearmen

This is a basic infantry unit, it's cheap and not so strong. This unit does not require a special training. It's easy to equip a soldier with a shield and a spear, but it's not really effective.

Castles and Towers are the places where you can create units and generate income.

You can find ruins in some maps. After conquering a ruin, wait for 3 turns and it will turn into a tower.

There are 4 levels for every tower, and a tower will automatically evolve:

Level 1 tower (3 turns needed), increase population limit by: 6.

Level 2 tower (12 turns needed), increase population limit by: 8.

Level 3 tower (18 turns needed), increase population limit by: 10.

Level 4 tower (26 turns needed), increase population limit by: 12.

Turn (move/attack/heal/fortify)

In your turn you can create new units, move your units, attack enemies and fortify or heal your units.

After you've finished, press the button “End turn”.

Move

movement

Click on a unit to select it. Mouse over the hex you want to move then click on a green highlighted hexagon not occupied by any troop to move.

Attack

attack

Click on a unit to select it. To attack an enemy unit, click on red highlighted hexagon where the enemy is standing. Remember that after the end of your attack, if the enemy survives he will counter attack your unit.

Options (Heal and Fortify unit)

options_fortify_heal

After you select a unit click again on that unit to see the heal and fortify options.

Select the left icon to fortify the selected unit. Fortifying a unit will reduce enemy damage by 20%.

Select the right icon to heal the selected unit (the healing amount is 30% of starting unit health).

Ranged Attack and Line of sight

ranged_attack_ok

When selecting a ranged unit you can attack an enemy unit by clicking on it only if it's inside your attack range distance. You can do it even if it's not on an adjacent hexagon. Your ranged unit will attack the enemy target without moving.

If you attack an enemy unit standing on a hex adjacent your attacking unit, it will not be able to counter attack.

You must position your ranged units wisely because enemy units and some elements on the map can block the line of sight of your units. Obviously, you can use those elements to your advantage while moving your units on the map.

As you can see in the picture below we selected our ranged unit. The enemy unit is not highlighted because it's covered by the forest even if it is in our attack range, so we cannot attack it.

lineofsight

Line of sight obstacles:

  • Mountains and Snowed Mountains
  • Forests
  • Towers but not Ruins
  • Cities
  • Enemy units

Win a map. Score and Medals

map_won_medal

If your Captain dies or if the enemy conquers all your towers and cities you will lose.

To win and complete a level successfully you must conquer all the enemy cities and towers.

After successfully completing a level you will get a medal. There are 3 types of medals: gold, silver and bronze. To get a gold medal you should conquer more than 75% of the map, to get a silver medal more than 50%, otherwise you will get a bronze medal. You can replay a level to get a better medal.

To increase your score you must kill enemy units and conquer enemy cities, towers and castles.

You must know that every time the game ends, losing or winning, your score and your game data will be uploaded to the AgeOfGames server.
