Quoting wolfbeast:
BUG!?!?!?
Dont get me wrong, i love this game, but when i save a game, and then come back to it, all my research is gone! i would have knights on the battlefield, but i couldn't recruit a freaking archer!
This is usually the game i go to when im bored, because its very very good, but this saving thing really screws me up....
4.6/5 for game before I discovered bug, 2.5/5 now, sence I can't come back to my game anymore...

It happens when u load a game without saving.

Fun game. There is a bug in the research system that allows you to easily gain all techs rather cheaply. Once you research the university everything else seems to become incredibly inexpensive, allowing you to get knights, which in the game seem to be the height of military technology. An army of 20 knights can overcome most anything.

I'm in agreement with fergus on this one, although it does take a bit of time to understand the game and the battle system. However, once you've done that, it's actually a good strategy game.

There's a key balance to be struck between expansion, which will bring in more money, or holding on to what you've got.

Spending money on research pays handsome dividends and then allows you to get better troops and increase your income.

The overall game is well built. The sounds, graphics and music are all good and the controls are all pretty user-friendly.

Worth the effort, if you're prepared to invest a bit of time in it.

4/5

almost a strategic chess game with a few twists.

first scenario with the english was quite easy in the end with a slow move rate and not trying to rush to take all you can get hold of. Take your time like a game of chess and if you are english cover your eastern flanks with 2 armies blocking moves in that direction with about 30 to 60 men but only keep enough to make enemy attacks lose and thus they stay away. move a third army into Spain with a fourth in the line up to block and once spain is conquered you have an easy route through tunisia into italy.

and if you take time to grow your army to block the enemy only you may find you have enough cash to research and thus make better strides into the next battle you aim to take on.

try to make sure you have all your battle front covered with enough men in each army to remove the threats of retaliation or easy losses with no men in the land. all behind can stay empty as you move along your route to victory. if you start as germans then put all your men in the frontiers and make sure you only take the lines of attack that do not need more than 1 army and make sure you have the resources to replace that army for the protection of your fronts as you have a surrounding number of armies and they need to have an eye kept on them until you are able to take the time to attack them.

4/5

this game isn't that hard.

If you're struggling, skip the first map, that certainly isn't the easiest. Maybe try the 2nd or 3rd (and maybe arabs or russians). figure out the bottle necks where you can group your forces to protect your border, and leave everything else deserted. Attack only when things are looking favourable (initially), in battles I found early on spear&archer combos on one line worked okay and later (especially after upgrades) pike, crossbow, crossbow will do far more damage than it takes.

Possible strategy with Britain on the first map (not full-proof admittedly):
-get all soldiers grouped together to take Ireland, everywhere else deserted.
-recruit a few more if needed to take scotland, still only army should now be in scotland (save all the income that you don't absolutely need to spend to win)
-Move down to England, recruit some more, maybe research if spare cash.
-Invade france (with superior, but not TOO superior forces).
-Hold; research, prepare. Income should be 2nd highest at least, Don't rush expansion, as its much harder to hold anywhere beyond this point. Wait for germany to make a mistake (ideally failing to take your French region after your now superior soldiers throw them back (pike crossbow crossbow). Invade empty region with sufficient forces, but don't weaken your region too much. Push in through the hole and force Germany to now reinforce internal regions... consider pushing to Sweden, giving up the land behind you, then expanding back out to give Germany two fronts.

Focus research on income (espec earlier techs) and archers/spear, don't need more than that really.

Germany controls nice amount of countries at the start while Britain has 2 and can easily conquer 3rd and rest 2 are put where Spain is (and either of those can conquer 1 more) and if Germany conquers Britains only route out of island and puts alot military there (and keeps it up) then Britain stays blocked (and 3 countries don't provide that much income that could do alot research or buy big army) so Germany can kill rest 2 opponents (1 of them tried to goto Italy via Africa but ran out of money).

Got totally crushed on easiest difficulty.
Well, thaaaat was fuuuuun...

I totally dislike this base-vs.-base battle principle. Sure, you can play with auto-battle (which I did mostly), but then the game is basically Risk.
Someone here who likes Risk?

2/5 stars, because of the decent design.

I think earth is being a bit harsh. I've played a few games of this an enjoyed each one (on normal difficulty, harder might be less pleasant). The game gets too easy if you over use it but I've found waiting a few turns defending a bottle neck can boost your money sufficiently to progress further (research or invading)

There is a bug with the research that reduces the cost of research, it seems to drop the cost by 25% each time something is researched, I got the most expensive ones for 12 gold in the end, and this persists into any new games unless you refresh the page.

Pretty good game reminded me sightly of the first Medieval total war; suits players that like turtling
