adventure is ok as long as its not in pitch dark w/o any kind of defense (until later) amomgst some monsters which appear semirandomly.

You don't really "get" Adventure as a genre, huh? :P

Or books. How about books? I mean, the entire things are just words the whole way through! Incredible, right? XD

Seriously though, it's just a story. That's all Adventure games are.

It's like a short story with a graphical interface, which you "read" by assuming the role of the main character, using visual graphics and sounds to make it more immersive to the "reader." And while this could be said to be true of other games (RPGs in particular), this is more of a simple, straight-forward story than a "choose your own adventure" with things like combat, side-quests and the like. Make sense? :)

I usually don't go in for Adventure games myself, largely because it can be difficult to tell the good ones from the bad until you've actually played them, but they can be really enjoyable if done well and the writing is good.

And this one was done very well. That, and I'm kind of a horror buff myself, so for those reasons I found this one particularly memorable.

As I said, just try to keep in mind that this is a piece of moving literature unlike typical Action or Strategy or whatever games, and you should be more able to appreciate it for what it is. ;-)

overall nice game but wandering around in the dark searching something I really want to do especially w/o any idea what to look or where.

The Sprite Droppings are entirely optional. And what they do is merely unlock additional content at the end: Such as character bios and such.

As for the game itself: I love this story. And that is all an Adventure game is supposed to be, more than any other genre: A really good story.

So that this game is a very atmospheric and effective horror story is all it really needed. But then there's also the appealing top-down 3D graphics and the incredibly realistic lighting physics, which all adds up to make Neverending Light one exemplary, stand-out example of the Adventure genre.

For what it is and all it's meant to be, I think it ought to have a 5... Which is something I'm loathe to hand out lightly.

True, it's hardly on the same level as Legend of the Void II or Monster's Den Chronicles, but then it's not trying to be. Just keep in mind that this is a piece of moving, interactive literature when playing and you'll appreciate it a lot more.

It does everything it's meant to do and then some, so: 5/5
^.^

very strange game. it appears to be a game of picking up light pieces called sprite droppings. I am not sure even after playing through to the end what they are for or even what is supposed to happen. The in game tutorial seems to have not a lot of info about it.

a well made game but rather short and a really small playing area. I found 47 of the 49 sprite droppings and no matter where I go I cannot find the last 2. I missed something somewhere.

I may go back in again at some later date.
